Success Stories from the Mosses slideshow
7.00pm
An illustrated talk with Joan Daniels of Natural England, providing a chance to catch up on the reserve’s last 16 years. To be held at the North East Wales Institute as part of the Wrexham Science Festival. Free refreshments. No need to book.

Birds of the Mosses walk
1.30pm for a 2.00pm start
An afternoon walk on the Mosses with Estelle Hughes and Eric Marsh, volunteers for Natural England, to observe some of the reserve’s bird species that now thrive on the Mosses. Meet at Manor House NNR base, Whixall.

Amphibian & reptile hunt

Enjoy this opportunity to discover the amazing world of amphibians and reptiles on the Mosses with Pete Bowyer of Natural England. Part of Compost Awareness Week. Meet at Manor House NNR base, Whixall.

Haganella clathrata caddis fly event

A chance to see one of the UK’s rarest insects – the Net-winged caddis fly, only found at two other locations in the UK with Ian Wallace of Liverpool Museum as part of National Insect Week. Meet at Morris’ Bridge, Whixall Moss car park.

Creatures of the Sculpture Plaques walk

Help to celebrate International Bog Day with a guided tour (3.5km) of Whixall Moss with Joan Daniels of Natural England, to try to spot some of the bog creatures highlighted on the wood-carvings along the Mosses Trails. Meet at Manor House NNR base. Marking the start of Meres and Mosses Month.

A Peat-cutter’s Life

A stroll around Fenn’s Moss with Bill Allmark, a former peat cutter, to learn how life on the Mosses used to be and why the cutting had to stop! Meet at Bettisfield old railway station. A Natura 2000 Site Green Day event.
