The Mineral Valleys Project: Working on the Wear

Mineral Valleys Project logo A fish pass being created on at Wall Nook on the River Browney Local school children pond dipping as part of their 'source to sea' site visits

Project Description

Working on the Wear has scoped out problems along the River Wear and its tributaries and put in place improvements for wildlife and river users through habitat, access and educational work.

A substantial educational programme engaged local and inspired young people by providing field trips looking at the river from its source to the sea. This was followed up in the classroom by artwork and creative writing which was put together to produce a publication about the River Wear.

This project has been delivered in partnership with the River Wear Environmental Trust, the Environment Agency and Natural England.
