Project Description
This project has concentrated on the natural and social heritage of two of the area's larger towns, and is split into three sub-projects:
- Improvements to Jubilee Meadows
this project has enhanced the landscape and wildlife value of an area to the south of Willington by landscaping the viewing area, slope and flood plain. It has created a countryside trail, improving the paths network, giving disabled access to much of the site, and improving picnic and toilet facilities. There are artistic features across the site which was opened by The Princess Royal in November 2005. - Batts and Chares
has improved access to the historic Market Place at Bishop Auckland. This was achieved by constructing an entrance feature and light landscaping along Castle Chare. Five information panels have been produced promoting the historic, industrial and natural heritage of the surrounding area. There will be light landscaping as part of an artistic interpretation feature on Theatre Corner. - Bishop Auckland Discovery Centre
has been redeveloped to include a permanent display space and a temporary display space. A part-time co-ordinator, was employed to ensure that the centre has a full and interesting programme of events, exhibitions and school activities.
