Project Description
Accessing wetlands and beyond has created a 2.4 Kilometre path between West Auckland and Ramshaw along the route of the Haggerlees Branch line railway track bed.
This path is usable by:
- Those with pushchairs
- Motorised wheel chair users
- Cyclists
- Horseriders
- Pedestrians
The route is provided with seating and information boards interpreting the wildlife and cultural heritage of the area, along with a leaflet promoting the route.
Alongside the route 4-5 hectares of new wetland habitats, including: reedbeds, ponds, wet meadow and wet woodlands have been created. These complement the River Gaunless Flood Alleviation Scheme. The local community including schools have taken part in the habitat creation.
