Mineral Valleys Project logo

Overview

A guided walk taking place around the new Rookhope route Local Residents from St John's Chapel plan their route

Project Description

There are two geographically distinct elements in this project:

  • A Wear Valley element that has consulted with local communities, and then implemented a series of new footpath improvements between settlements and the Weardale Way. There have been improvements to signage and to the condition of stiles and gates along the Weardale Way. It will also develop a series of 7 self-guided circular 'heritage' trails with associated walks leaflets. A walking festival will be held in the last week of May 2008.
  • A Spennymoor element that will develop a well-interpreted footpath between Spennymoor and Whitworth Hall.

Both elements of the project will work with volunteers from local communities to deliver the projects.

Length of Project

Start date: July 2003
End date: May 2008
