Natural England is pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 Leicestershire Landscapes Matter Photography Competition.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), the East Midlands Regional Landscape Partnership, Leicestershire County Council and Leicester Shire Promotions launched the competition in August this year, in order to promote the varied and distinctive landscape character of Leicestershire.
There were four categories in the Leicestershire Landscapes Matter competition – valleys and vales, farmlands, wolds and woods and forest. Winner of the Valleys and Vales category was Jason Massey who captured a lovely image of Sileby Lock.
Winner of the Farmlands category was Daniel Squance, from Oadby, who took an image of the quiet village of Noseley, near Market Harborough, on her camera last summer.
Lesley Hexall, who was commended in the Farmlands category, won the category of Woodlands with his shot of Ancient Oak.
Karen Devonport, Natural England Senior Landscape Specialist and competition judge, said: "From a professional point of view I was looking for images that captured the distinct characteristics of the different landscape types."
"I was very impressed with the entries, and it certainly wasn’t an easy task being a judge as the overall standard of the entries was very high making final choices very difficult to make."
The competition categories are based on the various regional landscape character types covering Leicestershire. A landscape character type describes a distinct and recognisable pattern of elements that occurs consistently in a particular type of landscape. The winners received free stays at one of three rural hotels in Leicestershire.
