Natural England organised the first UK MPA Conference. It brought together those involved in management, designation, science and policy development of MPAs.
Report: Towards a coherent network of Marine Protected Areas conference![]()
The objectives of the conference sessions were:
What can MPAs deliver? Discuss the evidence of benefits (biodiversity and socio-economics) that MPAs can deliver with a focus on the UK.
The story so far: how are we doing in building our MPA network? Discuss progress in completing the MPA network. Showcase good management practices within existing MPAs and discuss management problems and solutions to solve these.
Approaches to selecting MPAs Present possible approaches for establishing MPAs. Discuss how to integrate industry and environmental desires into the network.
What else do we need to do to achieve our MPA targets? Discuss the legislative tools and other actions delegates believe are needed to establish an effective, coherent network of MPAs in the UK.
