The aim of the existing energy crop locations maps is to identify where SRC and miscanthus have been established within England. The maps may be used to assess opportunities to develop new biomass projects and energy supply chains.
The guidance below must be referred to when using the ‘existing locations of energy crops’ maps for assessing opportunities and optimum sitings of short rotation coppice (SRC) and miscanthus. Information about the data used to produce the maps is provided below.
The regional maps show the locations of both miscanthus and short rotation coppice established under the 2000 - 2006 England Rural Development Programme (ERDP), Energy Crops Scheme (ECS).
The ECS offered grants for the establishment of approved energy crops and for setting up SRC producer groups to increase the amount of energy crops grown in England. The initial ECS (under the ERPD) closed to applicants in the summer of 2006. A new ECS – offering establishment grants only - will be available under the Rural Development Programme for England 2007 – 2013 (RDPE).
