The Country Park Accreditation Scheme aims to identify and recognise those sites that are delivering the core facilities and services expected of a Country Park.
To clarify the core facilities and services expected of sites that call themselves Country Parks
To highlight to public and practitioners all sites that are delivering what is expected of country parks
To champion improvement at those sites not currently meeting the criteria by identifying where they need to improve.
To encourage correct application of the Country Park ‘brand’
The Accreditation Scheme is owned by Natural England, having been developed jointly with the Country Parks Network. These bodies have reviewed and updated the Countryside Commission criteria for core services and facilities expected of Country Parks to reflect the status and role of Country Parks today. It is these criteria that underpin the scheme. The scheme is managed on a day-to-day basis by Natural England’s Country Parks Accreditation Administration Team, and is operated to governance as set out in the Scheme Handbook.
