Enquiry Service

Our Enquiry Service is the first point of contact for all general enquiries about Natural England and its work. The team should be able to answer most enquiries immediately but will transfer you to appropriate colleagues for help with more technical or specialist enquiries. The Enquiry Service can be contacted at:

Natural England
Northminster House

Tel: 0845 600 3078 (local rate)

You can fill out our online enquiry form or email enquiries@naturalengland.org.uk.

For specific enquiries concerning wildlife management contact the Wildlife Management and Licensing Service. The team provides advice on wildlife, and issues licences under the wildlife legislation. Advice focuses primarily on wild birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians that are legally protected.

The team is also the first point of contact for people wishing to report suspected poisoning of wildlife, pets and beneficial insects (such as honey bees) by pesticides through the Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme. To report a suspected pesticide poisoning, telephone 0800 321600 (Freephone).

See also Environmental Stewardship enquiries.

The general enquiries team also:

  • Provides a referral service so that customers can be directed to another organisation more suited to their enquiry
  • Provides information on careers in conservation
  • Distributes the Research reports series and can provide a list of them

Opening hours

08.30 to 16.30 (Monday to Friday)

Telephone calls

All calls will be answered promptly. If the first person you speak to cannot deal with your enquiry in full, they will pass you on to someone who can. If we cannot help immediately you will be given the name of the person who will respond and when they will be available to respond. For more complex enquiries you may be asked to put it in writing, in which case you will receive a full response or a progress report within 10 days of receipt.

Outside of office hours or when all lines are busy an answer machine will be available for you to leave a voice mail message, which will be answered within 1 working day.

Written enquiries (including e-mail and fax)

We aim to respond in full to all written enquiries within 10 working days. Where this is not possible, e.g. when further research is required we will notify you in advance to advise who will respond and when.

Publication requests

Natural England publishes a wide range of printed materials - such as leaflets, booklets, reports, guides, periodicals and posters.
