Landscape photography exhibition at National Theatre

21 December 2010

The ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year’ exhibition is at the National Theatre in London until 16 January 2011 and admission is free. Organised by ‘Take a view’, this year’s competition was supported by both Network Rail and Natural England.

Sławek Staszczuk receives his award from Poul Christensen, Chair of Natural England (c) Take a view

Charlie Waite, founder of ‘Take a view’, said: “This exhibition is surely the pinnacle of fine British landscape photography and a splendid celebration of some of our nation’s most glorious places. The support that we have had for this fourth year has been invaluable and has allowed many thousands of people, who otherwise would perhaps never discover some of these remarkable landscapes, to enjoy them almost first hand, such is the quality of every image.”

He continued: “The urban-centred images complement the classic sweeping views, as they record and express the changing face of our daily lives in a very immediate way. This, in my view, is a ‘must see’ exhibition. If you want to be reminded of why we love Britain, come and have it affirmed at the National Theatre.”

Natural England’s award, for the best ‘Landscape on your Doorstep’, was won by Sławek Staszczuk for his intimate and striking image of the South Downs: (621kb)pdf document. He was presented with his prize at the awards ceremony in November by Poul Christensen, Chair of Natural England.

The awards book, ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year Collection 4’ (AA Publishing) features over 170 winning and commended entries from this year’s competition and is available in bookshops now.
